Honey, let’s wait another year or two

My cousin and her family were just here visiting from New York. They were here for about a week. Their son, Hayden, is 1 ½ and very cute. He is a great kid. I had to laugh though, because he showed Kenny and I that we are definitely not ready to pop one out any time soon.

We occasionally caught ourselves glaring at him, like we were thinking, “Grow up kid. Quit whining.”

I jokingly said, “Kenny, we cannot have kids until we can get a maid.” He agreed 100%. Seriously.

Even before Hayden left the house, Kenny started to clean EVERYTHING. He was wiping everything down, vacuuming, and dusting. Kenny does not clean unless bribed.

We have nothing in our house for kids. Nothing. No cute little plates or silverware. No toys. The poor child was playing with the dog toys half the time.

I was starting to think maybe I was ready to start a fam. Now I know......

Lisa, don’t worry. We really do love when kids visit the house. I swear!

It's funny you mention this because I found myself yesterday thinking I may be content to NEVER have children. Seriously. Way too much work. Way too much responsibility (approximately 18 years of it. No thanks). Way too messy.

I like having disposable income, too.

I know, I know. I really DO want them, some day. But, right now-yuck! So dirty! He also had taco meat hands, and then ran over and threw himself onto my leather chair. That was a fun one to clean up.

I could tell you some stories of the McKee boys growing up. Kenny probably knows a few of them. I wouldn't change it a bit after all look at what they have grown into and who they have brought into the family. I'm proud of them all especially mine. I'll bet you had Taco hands a time or two. Ask Lisa about drinking from a pop bottle.

I do realize that having my own and being abruptly throw into it for a week makes a huge difference. If/when we have our won, they will ease us into having a "kid house". We will slowly be introduced to crayons on walls, food remains everywhere, kid smells, etc..... :)

Lisa,
Well? Explain please!

Ok, first the soda bottle thing, my dad would never let me drink from his bottle of soda pop, he would give me a cup of soda but I couldn't drink from his (too much backwash) as a kid you put your entire mouth over the bottle. Ironically he will let his grandson, Henry do that no questions asked. Hello!!! Secondly, I will be happy to call or email Kimberly and ask if we can stay with them and we could just visit sans taco hands and all . . . enjoy a little smoked meat and grilled marshmallow, chocolate, banana sandwiches and go on our way leaving you with a cleaner, less chaotic and less whiny household. (of course I should follow that up with, I do have a perfect child!! Ha!) Thirdly, I completely understand about the waiting for a child until you are ready. I truly believe that being an older parent has served me well, not to knock those who do become parents at the more traditional age. Just for me having been around a while, being established in a career, not nearly as self centered as I once was ;-)I am truly loving every minute of my life as a mom and I know I can speak for Walt too. Our enjoyment is hanging with Henry, grilling great food, enjoying the pool and just waiting for the next funny thing Henry says or does, it is such a wonderful life. I am just not sure 10 years ago I would have been as patient and understanding when my house isn't as clean and my son would like to have a pots and pans drum concert. These days I just drop what I am doing and join in! Seriously, we will be happy to stay at Kimberly's house, just let me know. Sorry, I really do get a little long winded!
